The “4-7-8” is a very simple, yet powerful breathing method that helps you calm and relax and fall asleep fast.

Honestly, to me the effect of this incredible breathing technique feels almost like a sedative drug.

Here’s how it works

  • Breathe in through your nose for 4 seconds.
  • Hold your breath for 7 seconds.
  • Exhale through your mouth for 8 seconds.

Even though it sounds crazy, it works.

Here’s a little about the chemical process behind this breathing technique:

When you extend your inhale to a count of four, you force yourself to take in more oxygen, and you allow the oxygen to affect your bloodstream when you hold your breath for seven seconds. Then, you emit carbon dioxide from your lungs when you exhale steadily for eight seconds.

This process effectively slows your heart rate and increases the oxygen in your bloodstream. It instantly relaxes your heart, mind, and overall central nervous system. With it, you can fall asleep in less than a minute.
